Hyderabad, September 24: Thanks to the timely alert issued by a train driver about placing of a boulder on the tracks, passengers of the Hyderabad-Kerala express had a provindential escape this morning.
Reports received at the police headquarters here said miscreants placed a huge boulder on the tracks between Ingur and Vijayamangalam stations at Velayuthampalayam on the Erode-Tiruppur section of the Southern Railway.
The incident happened minutes before the Kerala-bound train was to pass the stretch.
The driver of the Chennai-bound Intercity Express, which was passing through the adjacent track, noticed the boulder and alerted his counterpart of the Hyderabad-Kerala express.
Acting swiftly, the Hyderabad-Kerala express driver stopped the train in time, averting a major accident.
The driver got down from the train removed the boulders and then proceeded with the journey.
It may be recalled that there has been an increase in incidents of miscreants placing boulders on tracks on this segment during the last two months.
Despite intensive track patrolling launched by the Railway authorities, such incidents had been on the rise.
