Block head killed before police station

Haldwani, August 23: A BJP-backed Block head has been shot dead allegedly by a local BSP activist after the two clashed over some petty issue in Haldwani district of Uttarakhand, police said here today.

The accused has been arrested by police.

Balawant Singh, head of Kotabagh block in the district and president of state block head organisation, and BSP constituency incharge Neeraj Tiwari had picked up a fight last night, following which the two parties opened fire, police said.

The two, accompanied with their supporters, meanwhile reached Kalajhungi police station and got into a scuffle once again.

In the melee, Tiwari took out his revolver and shot at Singh from point blank range and escaped with his supporters.

Singh was later rushed to the nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead, police said.
