Blasts hit central Baghdad

Baghdad, August 19: Iraqi police and medical officials say at least two explosions have struck Baghdad, including one near the parliament building, killing at least three people.

The officials say a parked car bomb targeted a joint Iraqi police and army patrol near the finance ministry in northern Baghdad today.

The officials say three people were killed and seven others wounded. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information.

AP Television News footage from inside parliament showed debris and broken glass from the blast in Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone. It wasn’t immediately clear what caused that explosion.

The Green Zone has often been a target of insurgent mortar and rocket attacks.
