Coimbatore: Over 100 BJP workers today protested before a rural police station, demanding an apology from the Inspector for allegedly using abusive language against the party North District secretary, V P Janaganathan, who had gone there to inquire about a land dispute.
Party sources said Jaganathan had gone to meet Inspector Venkatesan at Karamadai police station to know the status of a dispute between two brothers over a piece of land in the area, some 30 km from here.
However, Venkatesan allegedly used abusive language against him and asked him to mind his own business, they said.
Police said on coming to know of it, over 100 BJP workers gathered in front of the police station, demanding an apology from Venkatesan or action against him for ‘insulting’ their leader
As things appreared to go out of control, additional police personnel were requisitioned from Mettupalayam, Periyanaickenpalayam and Sirumugai stations, they said.
DSP Ravishankar arrived at the spot and pacified the workers. The inspector apologised for his behaviour, after which the workers dispersed, they said.
