BJP trying to fish in troubled waters in TN: CPI

New Delhi : The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Friday cornered the ruling BJP at the Centre over the ongoing political developments in Tamil Nadu and expressed concern that there should not be any horse trading as newly-appointed Chief Minister E. Palanisamy proves his majority on the floor of the assembly as directed by Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao.

“Here the BJP is trying to fish in troubled waters as they are even today talking about instability of the government. Finally, it is for the people of Tamil Nadu that how they are going to react because Tamil Nadu is a very important state in the country,” CPI leader D. Raja told ANI.

“Now the government is in place, Palanisamy has to prove his majority on the floor of the house and that is what the Governor has directed him. I hope in the meantime it does not lead to any horse trading or any inethical practices in the state of Tamil Nadu. One hopes that this will bring end to the political crisis and uncertainty that is going in Tamil Nadu,” he added.

Palanisamy will seek vote of confidence on the floor of the assembly tomorrow. After a prolonged political crisis due to internal power war in the ruling AIADMK, the Governor yesterday invited Palanisamy to form government and administered oath of office and secrecy Palanisamy, known to be a VK Sasikala loyalist, has been given 15 days by the Governor to prove his majority.

The DMK with 89 MLAs in the House of 234 members has clarified that it would not support any of the AIA DMK factions. The Congress having 8 members has not disclosed it decision so far.

Earlier on Thursday, 11 MPs owing allegiance to former chief minister O. Panneerselvam went to the Election Commission in Delhi and lodged complaint against the election of Sasikala as the party general secretary.
