New Delhi, December 15: The Opposition BJP today slammed the Government over its ”fiscal mismanagement, pro-rich economic policies and ”populist measures”.
Continuing the discussion in the Rajya Sabha on the Appropriation Bill(No 4), 2009, piloted by Finance Minister Pranab Kumar Mukherjee, Mr Prakash Javadekar of the BJP said the Government’s stimulus package had only helped the industrialists and had done nothing to give relief to the thousands of labourers and workers who were bearing the brunt of both joblessness and rising prices.
He said the Government had failed badly on developing infrastructure. It had fallen short of its target to add 16000 MW per year and construct 22 km road per day.Mr Javadekar wanted to know what the government was doing with the money it was raising through disinvestment. It was claiming that the funds got this way would be spent on the social sector but it had so far not earmarked the money for it.
He also attacked the Government for the black money stashed away in foreign banks, saying it was not doing anough to bring back that money so that it could be spent on the development of the country. The government had greatly mismanaged its finances by many populist measures to win elections, he said.
