New Delhi, March 19: The Puducherry unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday released its second list of candidates for the April 13 polls. With this, it has announced the contestants for 19 segments in the 30-member Assembly.
State BJP president S.P.K. Damodaran said the party would identify the candidates for the other constituencies in the coming days. The priority is to improve the voter base for the party, he said.
The party would begin its poll campaign once the nomination process was over. The campaign would target the “corrupt and anti-people” policies of the Union and territorial governments. Issues such as “unemployment, traffic congestion, neglect of agriculture and exorbitant fee structure in private schools will feature in the campaign,” he said.
National leaders of the party, including Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, would visit the Union Territory to garner support from voters. An invitation has also been sent to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to campaign here, Mr. Damodaran said.
