New Delhi, September 24: The BJP yesterday declined to comment on the Supreme Court order asking the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court to defer its judgment in the Ayodhya title suit case till September 28 and said it would react on the issue only after the order is passed.
BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman told reporters the BJP will not comment on the issue till the verdict on the title suit on the disputed structure was pronounced.
Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court stayed till September 28 the judgment in the case which was scheduled to be pronounced by the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court tomorrow.
The suit was pending for the last 60 years and the appeal will have to be heard again if the order is not pronounced before October 1, the day Justice Dharam Veer Sharma will superannuate.
The Supreme Court will also consider whether the matter can be referred to a larger bench in view of the difference of opinion between the judges.
Justice Sharma had expressed his open dissent with his peers, Justices S U Khan and Sudhir Agarwal, on the bench which had dismissed petitioner Ramesh Chandra Tripathi’s application seeking deferment of the September 24 judgment and another opportunity for an out-of-court settlement of the dispute.
Justices Khan and Agarwal had also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Tripathi.
