Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala asserted that despite several attempts BJP was not able to even open its account in Kerala in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections and that no important leader will join the saffron party in the state.
“From Kerala, no important leader or worker will join BJP. They tried their level best; Amit Shah visited Kerala 27 times but they were not able to open their account and in 13 places they even lost their deposit,” said Chennithala.
Speaking on the comments made by former Congress MLA AP Abdullahkutty, Chennithala said, “On Tuesday, the PCC executive leadership has decided to call for an explanation on CA Abdullahkutty’s comment on PM Modi. We won’t accept his remarks as it is clearly an anti-party line. Let’s wait for his reply and then according to the party constitution, we will take suitable action after receiving his explanation.”
“It is an acceptance of Narendra Modi’s developmental agenda. The secret behind his popularity is (that) he has used Gandhian values in his governance. Mahatma Gandhi said that when you frame a policy, you remember the poorest man you met in your life. Modi has done it promptly,” he wrote on Facebook after the election results were declared.
Hailing Modi government’s schemes, the former Congress MLA said that the prime minister provided toilets to 9.16 crore and LPG connection to 6 crore families.
On the issue of Sabarimala temple, the Congress leader said, “When Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government will come to power, we will protect the rights of the devotees. When we will come to power, we will pass legislation keeping Sabarimala and devotee’s interests in mind. We don’t want to take political mileage on Sabarimala issue. It is an emotional issue and is based on belief.”
Congress-led UDF won 18 out of the 20 parliamentary seats that went to polls in the Lok Sabha elections in Kerala.
