New Delhi, July 26: BJP national president Nitin Gadkari demanded resignations of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister P Chidambaram after former Telecom Minister A Raja implicated their names in the 2G scam in his deposition before the trial court.
Addressing a news conference here yesterday, Mr Gadkari said the BJP always maintained that a mega scam involving Rs 1.76 lakh crore could not have been committed only by one minister but was the outcome of others involved and the Cabinet.
Mr Raja, who is in jail in the 2G specrum scam since February, had pointed finger at Dr Singh and Chidambaram, the then finance minister, for permitting the 2G decision.
“After this deposition in the open court, both the leaders had no legal, political or moral right to continue in the office even for a moment,” Mr Gadkari said.
At the same time, Mr Gadkari also announced that the party would take ‘appropriate decision’ on Karnataka Lokayukta Santosh Hegde’s report on illegal mining once the report would come out formally.
The media leaks, quoting Mr Hegde, have reported that Mr Yeddyurappa and four other ministers including ‘Bellary brothers’ have been indicted.
Mr Gadkari also said that Mr Yeddyurappa during his telephonic conversation had conveyed that he would abide by the party’s decision.
