Patna, August 14: The Bihar government today sought a special financial assistance of Rs 23,000 crore from the Centre to deal with the drought situation in the state.
The state government in a memorandum to the Centre sought allotment of Rs 23,000 crore special financial aid to provide relief to 1.26 crore families affected by drought in 26 districts of the state, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said.
Key departments like Agriculture, Health, Animal Resources, Energy, Food and Civil Supplies and Public Health Engineering Department will work together to tackle the flood situation, he said.
If the rainfall continue to be scanty, rest of the 12 districts would also be declared drought-hit, Kumar said.
According to official sources, the state would require 25.5 lakh metric tonnes of food grains for providing one quintal each to 1.26 crore families for two months in the drought-hit districts.
