Big Fat Indian Wedding showcased on ‘Shaadi 3 Crore Ki’ on Imagine

New Delhi, March 01: The Big Fat Indian Wedding, with its magnificence and opulence, seems to be the latest focus of reality shows on the small screen whether it be celebrities Rakhi Sawant and Rahul Mahajan scouting their life partners, shows scouting for the ‘Perfect Bride’ or TV programmes playing matchmakers.

After ‘Rakhi Ka Swayamwar’ and ‘Rahul Dulhaniyan Le Jayenge’ on Imagine, ‘The Perfect Bride’ on Star Plus, ‘Kahin Na Kahin Koi Hai’ on Sony, a new marriage-based reality show showcasing the opulence characterising Indian weddings began airing on Imagine General Entertainment last night.

Being aired from Mondays to Thursdays in the 9 pm to 10 pm slot, ‘Shaadi 3 Crore Ki’ is an extravagant new reality show where one young about-to- be- married couple will get Rs 3 crore to host a dream wedding.

To be hosted by Mona Singh and Ali Asgar, ‘Shaadi 3 Crore Ki’, will bring out the Indian wedding in all its magnificence.

While in a typical wedding, the invitation card costs anything between Rs 25 -50, in a 3 Crore wedding, the invitation card may be worth Rs 5000! In a typical wedding, the bride gets 2-3 sets of jewellery, but in a 3 crore wedding, she is likely to get 25 sets of jewellery. A typical wedding has a menu spread of 12-15 dishes, but in a 3 Crore wedding, the spread may have 250 dishes from all over the world! In a way, ‘Shaadi 3 Crore Ki’ is a reflection of how weddings in India are a voyeuristic affair with everyone having an opinion on the scale, the style, the decorations, the bridal dresses, the wedding gifts and the overall arrangements.

The Lucky Couple who will be getting 3 crore to host their wedding are Jasmeet and Ishu.

Ishu, the groom, lives with his family in South Patel Nagar in Delhi and works in a MNC. Jasmeet, our happy natured bride, lives in Barara in Haryana and is studying BCom. Their parents had fixed their marriage and were planning a simple ceremony, but now the lucky couple will celebrate a colorful, fun filled and highly opulent Punjabi wedding, witnessed by the entire country.

Announcing the launch of the show, Senior Director, Marketing and Communications, Imagine, Nikhil Madhok said,”we are very enthusiastic about this show because the concept is unique. Weddings in our country are full of fun and celebrations. At one level, this show is voyeuristic and invites viewers to witness an extremely opulent wedding where each function and ritual is larger than life.

On another level, it gets the viewer thinking about how they would have the spent the money if they had received it. There is a universal connect and an inherent stickiness in the concept so it will be really entertaining and fun.” On hosting the show, TV and film actress Mona Singh said,”I am thrilled about being a part of ‘Shaadi 3 Crore Ki’. I wish I could have this glamorous 3 Crore wedding! It is a great show and I am sure it will be loved by all. The moment I was told about the concept of the show, I knew that I wanted to be a part of it.

It is something that the Indian audiences have not seen before.” Speaking about the show, Mona’s co-host and TV actor Ali Asghar said,”it is very exciting to be a part of the show. It is like a couple will win a lottery and that too of 3 crore and the best part is that they get to spend it on the most important event of their lives – their wedding. What’s more exciting is that we are getting to be a part of the entire wedding journey – from the preparations to the wedding. I genuinely believe that is going be great fun!” ‘Shaadi 3 crore ki’ is the latest in the line of reality shows being aired on Imagine, which has earlier featured shows like ‘Rakhi Ka Swayamwar’ and ‘Rahul Dulhaniyan Le Jayenge’. While ‘Rakhi Ka Swayamwar’ saw film actress Rakhi Sawant chose her life partner from amongst 12 men participating in the reality show, ‘Rahul Dulhaniyan Le Jayenge’ saw the late Pramod Mahajan’s son Rahul Mahajan select his bride from among 12 girls participating in the show.
