BHEL township in SI exam drama

Hyderabad, August 05 : The Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited’s township in Ramachandrapuram is caught between the police department and Telangana agitators over conducting the SI recruitment exam on August 13 and 14, thanks to the controversy surrounding the deletion of the 14(f) clause from the Presidential Order.

The BHEL-Ramachandrapuram has been embroiled in controversies due to the police department’s decision to conduct the SI recruitment exam in its township. The police department considers the township a safe place for the conduct of the exam in the backdrop of T-outfits threatening to stall the exam.

The police department has been insisting on conducting the exam for 4,783 candidates of Zone-VI in six centres located inside the township since it is a restricted area and guarded by personnel of the CISF.

The employees’ associations of BHEL, however, are opposing it. Even the families residing in the township are afraid, anticipating violent incidents between the police and the T-agitators. They protested that the government could not turn the peaceful township into a “war zone.”

The police, however, feels that it will be able to thwart any attempts of T-agitators to stall the exam if it is held inside the township.

The BHEL management too had initially opposed the idea. But it relented after the Hyderabad DIG, Mr Nagi Reddy, met the management.

“We have issued hall tickets to the candidates. We cannot change the centres at this stage,” said Mr Nagi Reddy.
Mr Nagi Reddy urged the candidates to make arrangements to reach the centres a day in advance.
