Bhopal, April 09 (Pervez Bari): India’s giant Public Sector Undertaking, (PSU), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, (BHEL), Bhopal Unit has registered a record 18 per cent growth over the previous year contributing Rs. 1219 crores (274.58 million USD)to the turnover during 2010-11. Last fiscal, the turnover was Rs. 1027 crores (231.332 million USD).
Addressing a crowded Press conference here on Tuesday Mr. M. K. Dube, Executive Director of BHEL, Bhopal unit, made the above announcement.
Replying to a query Mr. Dube said that the company has export orders in hand worth about Rs. 1700 crores (382.76 million USD) from countries like Vietnam, Tajikistan, Rwanda, Bhutan etc. The company has exported electrical equipments to Italy, Afghanistan and Nepal, he added.
Mr. Dube revealed that BHEL Bhopal unit has registered 13 per cent increase in its overall turnover during the fiscal year 2010-2011. The record production turnover was to the tune of Rs. 4,202 crores (946.077 million USD) during 2010-11 and the Profit before Tax, (PBT), being Rs. 648 crore (145.897 million USD) which is seven per cent increase as compared to last fiscal. The company achieved this profit after absorbing an additional amount of Rs. 94 crores (21.164 million USD) towards personnel payments. The turnover in the previous financial year was Rs. 3708 crores (834.853 million USD).
While congratulating the employees, he said that the record production turnover target could be met with the dedication and team efforts of the employees only.
Mr. Dube informed that the Bhopal unit made value addition @ 17 per cent and the figure this year after addition stands at Rs. 1897 crore (427.856 million USD). He said that the year 2010-11 has been significant for the engineering & product development sector too where India’s first 765 kV, 500 MVA Single Phase Auto Transformer have been developed & 1200 kV, 333 MVA indigenously developed Auto transformer is at its final stage.
He announced the coming year’s target i.e. for 20011-12 will be of Rs. 5010 crore (1128 million USD) and said it is very competitive keeping in mind the current competitive economic scenario. But the employees of BHEL, Bhopal can achieve any target. Alluding to CMD’s statement Mr. Dube said that CMD Mr. B. P. Rao urged the employees to put all out efforts to meet the production target. He said that how the Trade Union, Supervisor Association and Executive Association worked hand in hand to achieve 2010-11’s desired target.
Mr. Dube further made the news persons and the employees of the organization present on the occasion aware about BHEL, Bhopal’s capacity augmentation, investment proposals and other technological developments. He said that R & D expenditure has been enhanced to Rs. 112 crore (25.2167 million USD) compared to previous years expenditure of Rs. 104 crore (23.4332 million USD). The Patent registration also registered growth and 42 patents have been registered so far, he revealed.
While throwing light on the current business growth he said that a large number of recruitments have been made this year. He also highlighted various developmental activities done towards CSR and numerous steps adopted by BHEL Ladies club for the empowerment of the weaker sections of the society. Modernisation of the Hospital has been done keeping in view the welfare of the employees. Renovation of the streets around the township and overhauling the quarters of the township has also been done keeping the current recruitments in mind.
Mr. Dube prior to the end of the Press conference made the gathering aware about different social, industrial development with the help of a Power Point presentation. BHEL is the company of the people of India and the nation’s development is associated with it. Concurrence of all is expected for this to happen. He highlighted the remarkable work done in the development of the state as well as the nation by BHEL.
Meanwhile, it may be mentioned here that the BHEL Corporation, which has 15 manufacturing divisions spread all over India, completed another successful year, which saw private as well as public sector utilities and other customers reposing confidence in the company’s capabilities. The BHEL Corporation in 2010-11 notched up its highest-ever turnover of Rs. 43,451 crore (9.80503 billion USD), registering a growth of 27 per cent over the previous year. The Profit Before Tax surged 37 per cent at Rs. 9,016 crore (2.03453 billion USD), during the year. The Net Profit i.e. Profit After Tax, (PAT), was Rs. 6,021 crore (1.35868 billion USD) which is an increase of 40 per cent over the previous year. An interim equity dividend of 132.5 per cent was paid for fiscal 2010-11, maintaining the track record of paying dividends uninterruptedly since 1976-77.
It may be pointed out here that Heavy Electrical Plant, Bhopal is the mother plant of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, the largest engineering and manufacturing enterprise in India in the energy-related and infrastructure sector, today. With technical assistance from Associated Electricals (India) Ltd., a UK based company, it came into existence on 29th of August, 1956. Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime minister of India, dedicated this plant to the nation on 6th of November, 1960.
