BHEL Bhopal Unit records 60 pc growth in exports

Bhopal; April 04 (Pervez Bari): India’s giant Public Sector Undertaking, (PSU), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, (BHEL), Bhopal Unit recorded 12 per cent increase in its turnover during the fiscal year 2009-2010. The turnover was to the tune of Rs. 3,708 crores during 2009-10 against Rs. 3,308 crores in the previous financial year.

While in exports too, the company registered a record 60 per cent growth over the previous year contributing Rs. 966 crores to the turnover. Last year, the turnover was Rs. 605 crores.

The above announcements were made by M. K. Dube, Executive Director of BHEL, Bhopal unit, during the annual Press conference here on Saturday. He said the Bhopal Unit also earned an amount of Rs. 602 crores as profit before tax leading to 21 per cent increase over previous year’s profit of Rs. 498 crores.

Declaring the Rs. 4650 crores target for financial year 2010-11, Dube said it is a challenging task in the present global economic scenario, but with a dedicated and committed team of about 7650 employees, we can do wonders. He highly appreciated the role played by Trade Unions, Supervisors Association and Officers’ Association and called BHEL, Bhopal’s work culture a unique one. He made presentations on the expansion and technological up-gradation schemes of the Unit. He said that capital investment of the Unit increased to Rs. 166 crores against Rs. 118 crores during the previous year and increase in filing patents has shown a record growth over previous year.

Replying to a question, he said that the quality of products made in India was much superior to that of China and this fact has been demonstrated many times all over the world. As such BHEL faced no threat from its Chinese counterparts, he added. (pervezbari@eth.net))
