B.Ed candidates call off stir

Hyderabad, November 21: Putting an end to the two-day stir, the B.Ed candidates selected under DSC 2008 climbed down the Directorate of School Education building at Saifabad here tonight. They came down after panchayat raj minister B Satyanarayana promised to take up their demands with chief minister K Rosaiah and resolve them at the earliest.

In a turn of dramatic events, nearly 100 candidates who climbed atop the building yesterday called off their stir after putting up a stiff resistance for some time. Police made efforts to bring them down using safety nets and cranes. However, they came down following an assurances by Satyanarayana.

However, they warned to resume their agitation if the government fails to keep up its promise.

Earlier in the day, the talks between secondary education minister D Manikya Vara Prasada Rao and the representatives of B.Ed candidates have failed. The minister expressed his inability to give posts as Secondary Grade Teachers (SGT) to them saying that there were no vacant posts.

As a result tension prevailed at the Directorate of School Education when the agitating candidates atop the fivestoreyed building, continued their protests. Today morning another 300 candidates joined the stir and staged a sit-in in front of the directorate but the police arrested them.
