Patna: BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah, who is heading one of the newly formed ad-hoc committee visiting Bihar, said that they are positive that Bihar can take part in Associate tournament from this year onwards.
“We have come to Bihar to see whether we can start the age group tournament for Bihar players or not. We have come here and we are very positive that it can be done. We have plenty of time left as tournament starts in October,” Shah told ANI.
“We have gone and visited the stadiums also. I think with our ground-men and other help, we can make it possible for play,” he added.
“As most of the ground in Bihar belongs to the government, we have met secretary of Sports. He is very positive and he has given us assurance to start this three age-group team for Bihar and with their help, I am sure Bihar can have three teams from this year and they can take part in Associate tournament,” he asserted.
On August 7, BCCI formed two committees for Bihar and Uttarakhand to protect the interest of the players in these two states.
The committees comprise five members each and these are headed respectively by Niranjan Shah (Bihar) and former treasurer MP Pandove (Uttarakhand).
The BCCI is planning to re-induct Bihar into the BCCI’s affiliates and associates tournament along with Meghalaya, Sikkim, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Chattisgarh.
The visit is supposed to pave way to the starting of selection trials of Under-16, Under-19 and Under-23 age groups to enable Bihar cricketers to in the BCCI Associate and Affiliate tournaments this season.
