BC body demands Rs.10 lakh for Varalaxmi’s kin

Hyderabad, February 28: Indian Dalit Christian Rights state president Perike Varaprasada Rao has demanded the state government to declare Rs.10 lakh compensation to the kin of Varalaxmi, who allegedly committed suicide unable to bear harassment of the college management to pay her tuition fees.

Speaking to mediamen here yesterday, he said that Varalaxmi’s parents had submitted a memorandum to the SC Commission to file cases of atrocity against minister for Transport Botsa Satyanarayana and Vigyan Engineering College director L Rattaiah, who had said her death was accidental. He also demanded the government to provide five acres land and a government job to her family. He demanded an enquiry into the Varalaxmi suicide case.

Lakshamma and Jangaiah, parents of Varalaxmi lamented that the government had not given any compensation so far.

BC Welfare Association Women president G. Ramadevi, Rangareddy former Women’s Congress president K Sunitha Mohan were also present.
