Hyderabad, December 05: The Hyderabad city police are confident that the city will remain peaceful on December 6, the ‘Babri Masjid demolition day’ even as security has been beefed up in view of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city.
“We held talks with leaders of all religious groups and they have assured us that the day will be peaceful. Nonetheless, there will be tight security in place,” Hyderabad police commissioner Mr.A.K. Khan told a press conference here today.
He said that besides the city police, forces would be drawn from other districts in addition to the Rapid Action Force (RAF). From tomorrow morning security will be beefed up across the city till the morning of December 7.
Hoisting of flags in public places has been banned. “Anyone found erecting flags will be dealt with seriously. Section 144 of Cr.PC is in force and people if seen in groups or organising public meetings will be taken into custody,’’ the commissioner warned.
It is learnt that the arrival of Modi is giving tense moments to the police as his visit is coinciding with the ‘Babri Masjid demolition day’. However, Khan put on a brave face and played down the arrival of Modi “I don’t want to comment on the arrival of Modi in the city. He is coming to attend a business meet,’’ Khan said when asked to comment on Modi’s visit.
Police are keeping a strict surveillance on communal offenders and rowdy-sheeters who were earlier involved in communal clashes. The day has become significant in the wake of the Allahabad High Court judgment on the Ram Janmabhoomi- Babri masjid land dispute.
