B-town pays homage to ‘unsung heroes’ on Independence Day

Mumbai :Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan among others, on Saturday remembered the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters and the bravery of Indian soldiers to mark the country’s 69th Independence Day.

The celebrities took to social media to wish their fans.

“Happy Independence Day 2015, Jai Hind…,” tweeted Bachchan, who has been sharing trivia about India with his followers, every hour.

Hrithik posted on his Twitter page, “Celebrating 69 wonderful years of freedom and the legacy of those who fought tirelessly to give it to us. #JaiHind.”

Veteran actress Shabana Azmi wrote, “On Independence Day let us revisit The Idea Of Indiaand what it means to each one of us personally.”

“Happy Independence Day! Don’t take your freedom for granted, someone’s paying a heavy price for it everyday! Salute to the heroes guarding us. #JaiHind,” wrote Akshay.

Actress Priyanka Chopra, who is shooting in the US for her debut American TV series “Quantico”, tweeted, “Miles away from my country,the scent of rain on dry mud,reminds of my home..my people… my India! To freedom & pride. Happy Independence Day.”

“Happy Independence Day to the greatest country in the world. Jai Hind!!” Abhishek Bachchan said.

“Wish you all a very Happy Independence Day,” wrote Sridevi.

Actress Anushka Sharma tweeted, “As an army daughter, having seen the sacrifices made by the soldiers,I truly understand that freedom is priceless. JAI HIND!!”

Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui wrote, “Happy Independence Day!Salute to the Unsung Heros of India. Shandaar Zabardast Zindabad!”

“Independence goes hand in hand with responsibility. Let’s be responsible and make our lovely country even lovelier. #HappyIndependenceDay,” said actress Alia Bhatt.

Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar also wished his fans on Twitter with a simple “Happy Independence Day” message.

“Here’s wishing you all a VERY happy Independence Day! Jai Hind!” wrote actress Sonakshi Sinha.

“Main Azaad hoon! #IndependenceDay. I prefer being a global citizen, not really a jingoist. But the diversity of my nation truly amazes me. From cuisines to cultures. #IDay2015,” tweeted actor Ayushmann Khurrana.
