Azad asked us to defer decisions on resignations: KK

Hyderabad, August 01: Senior Congress leader and Telangana Congress Steering Committee Co-Chairman K Kesava Rao demanded that the Centre complete the consultation process with Telangana and Seemandhra leaders over separate statehood demand by September 17.

Speaking to media persons on Sunday, Mr Kesava Rao disclosed that Congress In-Charge for Andhra Pradesh Affairs and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had spoken to him on Sunday morning and had requested him again to withdraw the resignations.

“On our refusal to heed his request, Mr Azad proposed that we write a letter to Speaker Meira Kumar, asking her to defer taking a decision on the MPs’ resignations from their Lok Sabha seats.

Mr K Kesav Rao emphasised that, “the question of withdrawing the resignation does not arise.” He added that the Congress MPs from Telangana will leave for New Delhi on Monday and met the Speaker, and urge her to accept their resignations.

The senior leader added that they will come back to their constituencies if their resignations are accepted, otherwise they would continue their fight for separate state from New Delhi.

The Rajya Sabha Member questioned Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy why did he not solve the issue of Clause 14 F of Presidential Order in three days, as promised by him. “Why has Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy kept the issue unresolved?,” he asked.

Mr Kesava Rao also criticised the Chief Minister for deciding to go ahead with recruitment examinations for the Sub Inspectors of Police posts without deleting Clause 14 F. He demanded that the Chief Minister solve the problem as soon as possible.

The senior leader also disclosed that the Steering Committee would meet on August 15 to discuss the employees strike issue.
