Ayodhya again discussed in J&K House

Srinagar, October 01: Verdict on Ayodhya title suit case by Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court was again discussed in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today.

As the House assembled for the Question House, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and National Panthers Party (NPP) members were on their feet, demanding that the House should pass a resolution hailing the verdict on Ayodhya.

BJP Legislative Party leader Chaman Lal Gupta said property worth lakhs of rupees was destroyed in the Kashmir valley when the Quran was set ablaze in the US last month.

He said after the historic Ayodhya verdict people maintained peace and brotherhood in the country.

Mr Gupta urged speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone to move a resolution, hailing the verdict so that it sends a good message.

The National Panthers Party (NPP) Legislative Party leader Harish Dev Singh, supporting Mr Gupta’s suggestion, said it was a victory of entire India.

However, the lone Communist Party of India (M) Mohammad Yousuf Targami said that the House should not do anything which could further disturb the situation.

”We have been witnessing turmoil for the past about four months and we should help restore peace and not to further complicate the situation,” he said.

About the victory of entire India as said by Mr Singh, Mr Targami said some Hindu leaders were projecting it as their victory and defeat for another party.

He said some parties have already made their intention clear that they will move the Apex court so it is better not to move any such resolution which will add fuel to fire in Kashmir, where the situation was already tense.

People’s Democratic Forum (PDF) member Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen and ruling National Conference (NC) Mir Saifullah also supported Mr Targami and said ”we should not raise such issues which will further worsen the situation.” Immediately after the Question Hour was over, speaker Lone said the issue will be discussed at Business Advisory Committee meeting which will take a decision in the best interest of the nation.
