Attack on priests in Nepal barbaric, says Congress

Ranchi, September 06: The Congress today termed as “barbaric” the Maoists’ attack on two Indian priests of Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu, saying such incidents “do no good” to Indo-Nepalese relations.

“Such barbaric acts in a place of worship are unimaginable…such actions do no good either to Nepal’s proud heritage or to Indo-Nepalese relations,” AICC spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi told newspersons here.

“We are confident that appropriate and effective official actions, which are already underway, will be taken not only to prevent recurrence but also to punish the guilty,” he added.

The Nepal government has already deployed security around the Pashupatinath temple after two priests, hailing from Karnataka, were severely thrashed by the Maoists on Friday.

Strongly condemning the incident, the Congress leader said the practice of Maoist beliefs cannot be permitted if it led to violence.
