AP to monitor cases of crime against women

Hyderabad, March 07: Andhra Pradesh government decided to set up committees to monitor cases of crime against women.

The suggestion to set up such committees came from women MLAs belonging to all parties in the wake of increase in such cases.

The committees would also act as counselling centres for women.

State Home Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy, who held a meeting with women legislators to review crime against women, said village-level monitoring committees would be set up first under the aegis of sarpanches.

Members of women self-help groups and representatives of NGOs would also be part of the committees. “The local sub-inspector will hold meeting with the village monitoring committee once a month and review the cases of crime against women.

We also want to have a similar arrangement at the district and state levels,” Sabita told reporters after the meeting.
