The huge growth in production and promotion of L Vannamei and black tiger shrimp in Andhra Pradesh State will help a lot in seafood exports scale in future. A rise in export of farmed shrimp has made Visakhapatnam the top seafood exporting port in the country, Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao said.
The Chief Secretary held a meeting with the Officials of Fisheries Department to review on Seafood exports in the State and technical support required from Marine Products Exports Development (MPEDA) Authority discussed in the meeting.
To establish and manage Aquatic Facilities (AQF) with technical support of MPEDA for promotion in motivating the farmers to take up culture in abandoned area, to promote cluster approach for shrimp farming, L.vannamei, black tiger shrimp farming in the state, promotion of mud crab culture, sea-bass culture, tilapia culture, revival of scampi culture, deep sea fishing and establishment of disease diagnosis and antibiotic residue testing labs are required in the State. The State Government has already allocated budget for the financial year 2015-16 to the concerned Department, to get the required assistance from MPEDA, Sri Krishna Rao said.
