Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet has decided to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding special category status for the State and implementing promises mentioned in the AP Reorganisation Act.
The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in Vijayawada yesterday.
The cabinet was also decided to push for talks between Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh to discuss the water sharing issues and press for stoppage of the irrigation projects proposed by Telangana across Krishna and Godavari rivers.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, speaking to the media on the decisions considered by the Cabinet said that the two states should resolve water-related disputes through discussions and dialogue.
He said that the AP Reorganisation Act clearly stated that no new projects should be initiated without the consent of the river management board.
Naidu also said that he had already met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior colleagues of his cabinet on several occasions regarding some important issues which were still pending.
Responding to a question, he said that NITI-Aayog was not aware of the State’s financial condition and the Centre had only released funds on par with other states like Telangana and had not implemented the AP Reorganisation Act. (ANI)
