Anna Hazare pays Rs 100 fine in court

Pune, May 06: Noted social worker and anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare was today fined Rs 100 by a court here for remaining absent on a hearing date in a case filed against him.

Hazare appeared in person in the court of Judicial Magistrate Rajesh Vanavdi at Shivajinagar today after being summoned by the judge who had noted his absence on March 15 during the hearing of a case.

The case was filed against Hazare in 2005 by one Hemant Patil accusing him of misappropriation of funds of a trust.

Hazare’s lawyer Milind Pawar said the magistrate had warned that he would issue a warrant against Anna if he failed to appear in court today.

Hazare told reporters outside the court that the case was a “deliberate” attempt to malign his image.
