Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh has topped the list of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in terms of providing works, Panchayat Raj Commissioner B Ramanjaneyulu said today.
The State provided works to all beneficiaries and also adopted Information Technology (IT) to ensure transparency in terms of payment and efficient monitoring, he said.
Talking to newspersons here, Ramanjaneyulu said AP has shown the way for efficient implementation of NREGS using technology.
A three-day Inter-State Exchange Programme of the job scheme will begin here on August 4. About 38 representatives from 10 states will visit parts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts to study the best practices implemented in Andhra Pradesh on August 4, 5 and 6.
Ramanjaneyulu said that NREGS is a wonderful initiative not only to ensure funnelling of resources for sustainable rural development but also to provide employment to rural masses.
As part of the scheme, over 3,600km CC (cement concrete) roads were laid in Andhra Pradesh last year. Over 5,000km CC roads will be laid this year, he added.
