Hyderabad, March 27: The Andhra Pradesh Assembly today hailed the Supreme Court’s interim order permitting four per cent reservation for backward class Muslims in jobs and education in the state.
Chief Minister K Rosaiah informed the Assembly that the apex court on March 25 stayed the High Court verdict which nullified the four per cent reservation.
Expressing happiness over the court’s order, the chief minister reiterated his government’s resolve to ensure reservation for backward Muslims.
Leader of Opposition N Chandrababu Naidu also welcomed the apex court order and asked the government to further argue the case effectively.
He demanded that the chief minister should prevail upon the Centre to provide quota for minorities and OBCs in legislatures.
“The UPA government can take the support of NDA in this regard like it did in the case of women’s reservation bill,” Naidu said.
