Bengluru :Former Karnataka High Court Judge N Ananda was today sworn in as Upalokayukta, stepping into the institution which has no functioning head.
He was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Vajubhai Vala at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan here.
Chief Secretary Kaushik Mukherjee read out the order of appointment of Justice Ananda as Upalokayukta. He will be holding the post previously occupied by Justice S B Majage.
Ananda is taking over as Upalokayukta at a time when the Lokayukta institution has no functioning head, following the resignation of Y Bhaskar Rao over an alleged extortion racket in the anti-graft ombudsman’s office involving his son.
Rao’s resignation came even as political parties had moved a motion in the Assembly seeking for his removal, which was admitted by the Speaker.
Another Upalokayukta Subhash Adi is on leave following the demand for his resignation. A motion seeking his removal moved by the ruling Congress in the Assembly has been admitted by the Speaker. In their petition against Adi, the ruling party members have accused him of “misuse of office, misconduct and inefficiency”.
