AMU appeals for peace ahead of Ayodhya verdict

Aligarh, September 23: On the eve of judgement in the Ayodhya title suit dispute, the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has issued an appeal to religious communities to maintain peace and communal harmony.

A resolution was passed at a meeting of the Teachers’ Association today requesting members of both the communities ‘not to endanger the communal harmony, political stability, economic prosperity of the nation at this critical juncture.’

“It is our bounden duty to respect the judgement of the honourable High Court whether it goes for or against us,” Jamshed Siddique, Secretary of the AMU Staff Association, said at the occasion.

He also iterated that the entire AMU community “should reaffirm its commitment for protecting the solidarity and integrity of the country at this critical juncture.”

The University’s Vice-Chancellor PK Abdul Azis also issued a separate appeal for communal harmony to the AMU community, cautioning them against rumour-mongering.
