Alleged 9/11 mastermind to stand trial in NY

Washington, November 14: Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the 9/11 attacks and four of his colleagues are to appear before a federal court in New York, as President Barack Obama insists on an “exacting” form of justice for them.

A formal announcement on the issue is expected to be made later on Friday by US Attorney General Eric Holder.

“I’m absolutely convinced that Khalid Shaikh Mohammed will be subject to the most exacting demands of justice,” President Obama said while in Japan, AFP reported.

“The American people insist on it and my administration insists on it.”

Mohammed and his colleagues, now detained at the controversial Guantanamo Bay Prison, will face trial at a place not far from Ground Zero, where the twin towers of the World Trade Center used to stand.

The September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks claimed the lives of 3,000 people.
