Mumbai, February 15: The Shiv Sena today appealed to all political parties to join hands and oppose the demand for a separate Vidarbha state.
“I appeal to all political parties – if you have love for Maharashtra, then come together against forces trying to divide the state,” Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray told an Akhand Maharashtra Parishad in suburban Bandra.
The parishad was convened to oppose the separate Vidarbha movement and would hold its programmes across the state.
Blaming Congress for the demand of separate Vidarbha, Uddhav questioned the “sudden urge” for it.
“It is not that the separate Vidarbha demand has gained speed after the demand for Telangana. Many states like Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand were created in past 10 years. But it is the politics of Congress over the issue,” he said.
Criticising work of Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority, Uddhav said MMRDA is part of the process of dividing Maharashtra.
