After power-cuts comes the water pinc

Faced with the challenge of meeting the growing drinking water demands of over 8 million residents of GHMC and nearby areas, HMWS&SB, is contemplating slashing water supply to various industries across GHMC limits.

If we look at the regular water supply of water board, there is a huge gap between the demand and supply requirements. While the demand has gone up to 450 MGD per day, the Board is able to supply 340MGD-345MGD of water every day. The Board will cut water supply by 20 per cent to industry to meet the domestic and other demands. Presently, the Board is directly supplying water to 71 entities including industries and beverage companies. However, the officials are not happing to come on record to make these cuts official as they are scared of facing the wrath from industrial sections.

“Yes, we have to take this step to meet the growing demands in the region. If we do not take this step. It will create a big problem for us in coming days,” said an official on condition of anonymity. He also added that the Board will reschedule existing water supply timings to industries from every alternate day to twice a week.

However, the director of Water Board (operations & technical) S Prabhakar Sharma told Postnoon that they would reschedule water supply timings to various areas on priority basis. “This will ensure we meet increasing demand during summer season,” he said. The two-hour power outage declared by the Electricity Board has come handy to the Water Board for rescheduling water supply timings.
