Kanpur, February 05: A plane carrying senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders L K Advani and M M Joshi, JD(U) president Sharad Yadav and others for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ‘mahasangram” rally was not allowed to land at Chakeri airport here today due to ”poor visibility.”
”The air traffic control authorities did not allow the plane to land at Kanpur and it was diverted to Lucknow, about 80 kms from here. From Lucknow also, they were prevented to reach Kanpur by road as the Z-plus security provided to them was not available at Lucknow.
Mukesh Meshram, the district magistrate(DM), said the airport authorities at Kanpur refused to take any chances with the top leaders and disallowed landing due to poor visibility even at noon.
He also said the security of the leaders was stranded at Kanpur, in the absence of which, at least Advani and Joshi could not move both having Z-plus security.
The leaders spent some time at Amausi airport at Lucknow while the Lucknow district administration expressed its inability to provide them NSG security and did not allow them to move to Kanpur.
The absence of senior leaders like Advani was a dampener for the rally whhich was organised against corruption , scams and price rise in the country. The next rally in the series would be on February 17 at Hyderabad followed by February 20 at Gurgaon, Haryana.
