Hyderabad, July 29: This may be the first time in the history of India that prisoners of Cherlapally jail will be allotted Unique Identity Number (UID) under Adhar card project.
Jail sources said that Adhar enrollment centres would be set up in all jails of the state so that prisoners are provided UID facility. Deputy Director General and Joint Secretary Planning of UID authority of India, Mr. V S Bhaskar told that Andhra Pradesh would be the first state to provide Adhar card to the prisoners besides physically challenged persons and persons suffering from leprosy. Andhra Pradesh is that only state of the entire country where 60 percent population is enrolled for Adhar card so far. He further said that with the help of NGOs persons suffering from leprosy and 10.5 lakh physically challenged persons would be issued UID.
Director General of jail, Mr. C N Gopinath told that prisoners can avail the opportunity and enroll their names so that when they are released from jail they may join national stream.
