Actor Kunal Singh’s death investigation handed over to CBI

Mumbai, December 18: The Bombay High Court today transferred the investigation into the death of actor Kunal Singh to the CBI.

Kunal was found dead hanging from the ceiling fan of his rented apartment in Versova in North-West Mumbai on February 6, 2008.

The direction was given in response to a petition filed by the actor’s father Rajendra Singh, allaging that his son had not committed suicide, but was killed.

He also contended that when he claimed Kunal’s body from the hospital, he found many injury marks on the arms and chest which indicated that he was murdered and later hanged to indicate that it was a suicide.

A division bench comprising Justice J N Patel and Justice A Sayed in their order directed the CBI to file a progress report in this regard within three months time.

Kunal’s friend and aspiring actress Lavina Bhatia, who was reportedly present in the house when the incident happened, was earlier arrested by the police for her alleged involvement in the case.

The Versova police, who were earlier investigating the case, said they had conducted a forensic test on Bhatia, and the doctor who conducted the post-mortem on Kunal Singh, toldthe investigation team that he suspected that Singh had been strangulated.

Kunal had worked in ‘Gangotri and Mai Baap’, Tamil film ‘Kadhalar Dinam’ and its Hindi remake ‘Dil Hi Dil Mein’ opposite Sonali Bendre.
