Joynagar: A woman sustained severe burn injuries on her face in an acid attack by three youths in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, police said today.
The heinous incident took place last night at Hassanpur when the woman was returning from her computer class.
Police said three youths called out the woman’s name from behind her and as she turned towards them, threw an acid bulb at her.
The acid burnt part of her face and severely injured one of her eyes, they said.
The woman was rushed to a nearby nursing home and later transferred to a government hospital in Kolkata, the police said.
The victim was divorced five months ago and the police suspect that her former husband, who is employed outside the state and absconding since the incident, was behind the attack.
The three youths, suspected to be the ex-husband’s accomplices, have been detained, the police added.
