ACB court sends Kar MLA to 14 days judicial remand

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Court today remanded Karantaka Kampli legislator T H Suresh Babu to 14 days Judicial Remand till August 14 in the cash-for-bail case involving former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy. The special judge for SPE & ACB cases Jaganadham passed the orders after the ACB sleuths produced him in the court following his arrest last evening. The ACB also questioned Mr Babu, who played an active role in the conspiracy of bribing the then first additional CBI Judge Pattabhi Rama Rao for granting bail to Mr Janardhan Reddy.

The ACB team who are tracking the movements of Mr Babu, laid a trap when he went to meet an advocate here in connection with his anticipatory bail in the High Court. An ACB official said Mr Babu had arrived at the advocate’s house around 1800 hrs. “After talking to the advocate for 30 minutes, he came out and got into his vehicle. We immediately intercepted the vehicle and took him into custody,” the official added.

Meanwhile, the MLA filed a memo in the court praying to send him to Chanchalguda Jail instead of Charlapally Jail. The court was yet to take a decision on it.

Apart from Suresh Babu, the accused list in the cash-for-bail scam included Bellary (Urban) MLA Gali Somasekhar Reddy, suspended CBI judge T Pattabhirama Rao, his son T Ravi Chandra, suspended judges D Prabhakar Rao, K Lakshmi Narasimha Rao, retired judge T V Chalapati Rao, history- sheeter P Yadgiri Rao, advocate Aditya, Dasaratha Rami Reddy and Surya Prakash Babu. Except Mr Somasekhar Reddy, who was yet to be arrested, the others were in judicial custody. A look-out notice has been issued against the MLA, preventing him from leaving the country.

The anticipatory bail petitions of Mr Somasekhar Reddy and Mr Suresh Babu will come up for hearing in the High Court on August 1. UNI
