Aarushi Talwar case: HC adjourns case till Feb 25

Allahabad, Feb 23 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court today fixed February 25 as the next date of hearing on a revision petition filed by Aarushi Talwar’s parents, Nupur and Rajesh Talwar, challenging the order of the Ghaziabad CBI court for making them the prime accused for the murder of their teenage daughter.

A single judge bench of Justice V K Narain heard the arguments and announced to continue the hearing on February 25. The petition charged that the CBI conducted a half-hearted and incomplete investigation into the case and that scientific methods of criminal investigation like ‘touch DNA’ were not adopted to gather evidence against the accused.

The Talwar family demanded that the High Court strike down the order passed by the Ghaziabad court and direct further investigation into the death of their daughter and household help Hemraj.

On February 9, the CBI court charged Nupur and Rajesh Talwar with killing of their 13-year-old daughter in their Noida home in May 2008. They were also made accused of criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence.

Aarushi was found dead inside her Noida residence in May 2008 with her throat slit and the body of Hemraj was recovered later from the terrace.

The CBI, which was entrusted with the investigation following an uproar over the alleged shoddy probe by the Uttar Pradesh police, has recently submitted its closure report pointing out fingers at her parents though it maintained there was no conclusive evidence. However, the court decided to proceed with the trial against the couple observing that there was ‘enough evidence’ against them.
