Chandigarh, June 13: Eighty-year-old Balbir Kaur, a chronic heart patient, returned home from hospital to an unpleasant surprise on Friday evening—she had been booked by the UT Police for disobeying the orders of the Deputy Commissioner by not informing the police regarding her tenants. Kaur has been living alone at her Sector-16 house after her husband passed away a year ago.
Station House Officer of the Sector-17 police station, Inspector Ramesh Chand, said Kaur was booked under Section 188. “But keeping in view the condition and age of the lady, we have not arrested her,” he added.
Kaur is the landlady of former Punjab Police sub-inspector Jagdish Singh, who was dismissed from service after his alleged involvement in a drug racket. Recently, Singh was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau in Mumbai with 25 kg of contraband.
The local NCB raided Kaur’s house two days ago and sealed the first floor where Singh was residing since 2008. His wife and children had already left the house for an undisclosed location before the raid.
Senior Superintendent of Police S S Srivastava said this was not the first case where a landlord had been booked for not informing the police about tenants. “Whenever we come across such people, we book them,” he added.
