Hyderabad, March 06: Refusal to issue hall tickets to Intermediate students not having minimum attendance led to trouble at the Government Junior College in Rajendranagar on Saturday with the students attacking college building.
The Rajendranagar police had to resort to lathi-charge to control the students. They later arrested three ABVP workers, who came from outside pledging solidarity with the agitating Inter students, and three students of the junior college. College principal Anantha Rao maintained that hall tickets could not be given as per the rules if the students do not have adequate attendance percentage.
The students had the option of paying some fine to attend the exam. “But they refused to do so and picked up an argument with the college authorities after assembling there in large numbers,” Rajendranagar Inspector K. Rambhupal Rao said.
Even as the arguments went on, some students confined the principal and the staff members in the former’s chamber and bolted the doors from outside demanding that they be given hall tickets unconditionally. On learning this, the police rushed to the college and dispersed the agitators using force.
Section 144 imposed
Meanwhile, police have clamped Section 144 Criminal Procedure Code prohibiting assembly of persons at all examination centres of Intermediate and SSC Public Examinations. Intermediate exams will be held from March 7 to 25 and SSC exams will be from March 24 to April 9.
The orders will be enforced from 6 a.m. on March 7 to 6 a.m. on April 10.
