50 lakh minority students to get Govt scholarships

Farrukhabad, October 23: Union government has decided to provide scholarship to 50 lakh students from the minority communities in the next financial year, Minister of State for Minorities Welfare, Salman Khursheed has said.

During the last financial year, only six lakh minority students had received scholarships, while this year the number has been increased to 29 lakhs, Khursheed said while talking to a delegation of former students of Aligarh Muslim university here last night.

The minister who is presently on a visit to his parliamentary constituency also said that an arrangement has been worked out with private industrial houses to provide special training to madrassa students.

“Special emphasis has been given for welfare of minorities and their recruitment under the Prime Minister’s 15-point programme,” he added.
