47th Pedicon in city from Jan 7 to 10

Hyderabad, January 06: With an emphasis on scientific temperament amongst the paediatricians (children’s specialists) the Indian Academy of Paediatrics, in association with American Academy of Paediatricians and the Royal College of Paediatricians, is all set to organise the 47th National Paediatrics Conference (Pedicon) in the city from January 7 to 10.

Pedicon chairman P Sudarshan Reddy said at a press meet here on Monday that the main theme of Pedicon would be augmenting the role of paediatricians from childcare to advocacy. Expressing confidence that the conference would prove to be a strategic point to exchange ideas, interact on academic issues and advocate on social issues related to children’s health, Sudarshan Reddy said, “There is a need to study and classify the database many of us procured over a period of time and compare it with other nations in order to facilitate mutual progress in this field.’’ He hoped that this would help doctors to offer better services while treating diseases like swine flu.

He said there would be an extensive session on the practice of `evidence-based medicine’, the concept fast catching on, along with research methodology and ethical issues.

To a query about the participation of foreign delegates in the wake of advisories against travelling to the city due to the ongoing agitations, Pedicon organising secretary Sanjay Srirampur said, “Thanks to the State Government, we could give assurance to overseas delegates.’’ Over 7,000 paediatricians are expected to attend the event at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre
