Cairo: In a bizarre move, a Cairo court sentenced 4-year-old toddler to life imprisonment on various charges.
Ahmed Mansour Karni received the verdict on Tuesday after being convicted of offenses that allegedly took place in January 2014, all before his second birthday.
Ahmed was not present in court when he was sentenced in absentia for his alleged crimes.
According to the indictment, Ahmed convicted of 4 counts of murder, 8 counts of attempted murder, inciting riots, vandalising property and threatening police officer as his name was listed as “wanted” along with 115 defendants who were all handed life sentences for crimes allegedly committed in early 2014.
Faisal al-Sayd, Defence Attorney added that Ahmed’s name was enlisted by mistake and the presiding judge fail to review the case before abruptly passing down a life sentence on a 4-year-old child.
Lawyer Faisal a-Sayd asserted, “The child Ahmed Mansour Karni’s birth certificate was presented after state security forces added his name to the list of accused, but then the case was transferred to the military court and the child was sentenced in absentia in an ensuing court hearing. This proves that the judge did not read the case.”
