2 killed in landslides in West Sikkim

Gangtok, August 20: Two persons were killed and ten others injured as flash flood and landslides triggered by incessant rains wreaked havoc in West Sikkim today.

Puspa Pradhan and Sameer Subba were killed and ten others were injured when a pile of boulders and mudslides fell on their houses due to landslides and flash floods at Sombaria and Daramdin areas in West Sikkim, Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Soreng, Bhim Thatal said.

As many as ten houses were damaged or washed away and dozens of cattle perished in the landsldies.

Normal life in parts of West and South Sikkim remained paralysed as the connecting roads were damaged due to landslides, the official said.

A disaster management team went to the spot to help the local authorities in rescue and relief work, Thatal said.
