New Delhi: Two suspected interstate gun traffickers were arrested here with 34 automatic pistols, following a brief shootout, the police said today.
The two accused, Mohd Manouar (26) and Mohd Shahid Alam (21), were arrested on July 25 from near Outer Ring Road, said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, DCP (Special Cell).
The Special Cell sleuths learnt about a Munger-based network in Bihar that was involved in manufacturing and supplying illegal firearms in the NCR.
It came to the notice of the police that Manouar and Alam would come to deliver a consignment of country-made pistols to one of their associates on Azadpur-Mukundpur Road near Outer Ring Road on July 25.
When the duo was surrounded by the police, Manouar started running towards a nearby open area and whipped out a pistol, said the officer.
A bullet fired by Manouar hit the bulletproof jacket of one of the head constables who was part of the police team.
Manouar was overpowered and four live cartridges were recovered from his pistol. Alam was also nabbed.
Police seized 34 automatic pistols, and 68 magazines from them.
