Nalgonda, August 11: Sixteen passengers were injured, six of them seriously, when a private bus in which they were travelling overturned at Choutuppal on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway in the early hours of today.
According to the police, the bus was going from Amalapuram to Hyderabad when it overturned at Lingojigudem village in Choutuppal mandal at around 5 am following sudden application of brakes by the driver to avoid ramming a vehicle ahead which slowed down.
Traffic on the busy highway was affected for more than two hours with hundreds of vehicles stranded.
The bus blocked the road completely and efforts by the police and locals to remove it went in vain. Heavyduty cranes were requisitioned to remove the bus.
All the injured were taken to the Kamineni Hospital at LB Bagar in Hyderabad.
Hospital authorities said that 14 of the 16 injured were admitted for treatment while two were discharged after first-aid.
