New Delhi, August 03: As many as 117 government websites were hacked in first six months of this year, government informed Lok Sabha today.

However, the website of National Investigation Agency was not hacked but “temporarily disabled”, Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Sachin Pilot said in a written reply.

“…a total of 117 Government websites were defaced during the period January-June, 2011,” the Minister said.

He said after analysing web server logs of the hacked websites, all the affected organisations and departments were provided analysis report along with countermeasures to plug the exploited vulnerabilities by Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In).

To enhance cyber security, Mr Pilot said all new government sites and applications would be audited by National Informatics Centre (NIC) before these are hosted and auditing carried out regularly after hosting. NIC will ensure that all ministries and departments of Central and state governments are implementing the Crisis Management Plan to counter cyber attacks and cyber terrorism.
