To encourage girls education in the State in a big way, the State government is providing accommodation by constructing 192 hostels attached to model schools with all facilities beginning September 1 this year, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari has said.
Talking to mediapersons at Secretariat on Wednesday, the Education Minister said out of 192 hostels planned, 102 hostels were built so far at a cost of Rs 123 crore. He said a total of Rs 247 crore was sanctioned to provide accommodation with all facilities. Each hostel would provide accommodation to some 100 students and the models schools will have all basic amenities. Giving a pat to engineering wing for completing the target on time, Kadiam said construction of the rest of hostels will be completed by the end of this month
The Dy Chief Minister claimed that the Telangana State has reached 70 per cent of the target to construct toilets in the schools by spending Rs 117 crore out of Rs 183 crore sanctioned. The TRS government was committed to give a boost to girls’ education and necessary measures will be taken to provide complete protection. “We are not conducting DSC this time as we are doing a complete overhaul of rationalization of schools, teachers and students ratio,” he said. Inadequacy of English medium faculty is a cause of concern, he said, adding they are working out a plan to mitigate this problem. He expressed concern that inadequacy of English teachers at schools is another reason why they are planning DSC next academic year. “As of now, we need school assistants and not special grade teachers”, he added.
